Community Green Project Holds Grand Opening in New Orleans

June 12, 2014

Green Coast Enterprises held a grand opening June 12 for the South Broad Community Health Center, as well as for the other businesses that make up the Community Green Initiative at Washington and Broad Streets in New Orleans. OCD-DRU Executive Director Pat Forbes spoke at the event; a $1 million PROP loan helped fund the project, and OCD-DRU invested another $750,000 in workforce training through Propellor.

(left) Facing Washington Street, Propeller, a nonprofit founded in 2009, incubates and launches socially minded ventures from its coworking space (right), where workspace and event space are available for rent.

Behind Propellor and the Green Coast Enterprises offices, facing Broad Street, Impressive Printing is located between
Laurel Street Bakery (left), a local start-up, and 3 Potato 4 (right), an organic, vegan, gluten-free restaurant offering
healthy food choices. Other area tenants include the Broadmoor Development Corporation, the Broadmoor Improvement
Association and Global Green USA.

The Community Health Center on Broad St. has a meeting room that can be accessed from the outside (left), so that community groups can meet after hours, as well as a waiting area that accommodates parents and children (right). Exam rooms and a nurses' station
are located upstairs. The Birthmark Doula Collective is currenlty operating out of the building; the full South Broad Community Health Center, run by Access Health Louisiana, will open later in the year.
