BATON ROUGE – Commissioner Kristy Nichols announced today that the sale of Point Clair Farm in Carville, Louisiana is complete. Commissioner Nichols and staff met with the members of the House and Senate Natural Resource Committees in August to discuss the sale of this property. Point Clair Farm sold for a total of $12 million to EuroChem, Russia’s largest minerals fertilizer producer. The money was wired to the Treasury and will be credited to the State Overcollections fund as per the Appropriations Bill.
“I’m pleased that the sale of Point Clair was able to proceed. With the approval of the Legislature, we are able to put these funds to use in securing a balanced budget,” said Commissioner Nichols.
The Point Clair Farm is a nearly 2,200 acre tract of land in Iberville Parish. It was the site of a former prison and has been used most recently as farmland. The Legislature approved the sale of several state properties as part of Louisiana’s budget for the current fiscal year. The money made from the sale of this land will go to keeping Louisiana on a balanced budget as the state heads in to session.
