BATON ROUGE -- Commissioner of Administration Angele Davis today released initial projected estimated expenditures by state government associated with Hurricane Ike at $127.9 million.
Combined with the estimated projected expenditures of $383.9 million for Hurricane Gustav, the total for the two storms is $511.8 million.
Both figures are estimates and incomplete, and do not factor in cost share. The state continues to seek 100 percent federal cost share for all categories of FEMA assistance.
"While state agencies are currently absorbing these expenses, the stress from back-to-back storms placed on their budgets, and more acutely on the budgets of local governments, makes full and timely federal relief all the more essential," Davis said.
A breakdown of certain expended or obligated Ike-related costs to state government to date:
Evacuation transportation: $6.8 million
Emergency communications: $635 K
Debris removal: $25 million
Road and bridge repair: $40 million
Moveable bridge repair: $15 million
Public health and medical services: $161 K
Search and rescue: $599 K
Public safety and security: $964 K
Pumps: $6.6 million
Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC): $673 K
Military support: $49 K
Disaster food stamps: $8.5 million
Separately, a preliminary estimated cost of damages caused by Ike to state facilities is $8.7 million. Damages from Ike were reported to state facilities in 17 parishes. Earlier this week Commissioner Davis announced that a preliminary estimated cost of damages caused by Gustav to state facilities is $100.4 million in 35 parishes. |
