Program Authorization: National School Lunch Act of 1946; Child Nutrition Act of 1996 as amended
The mission of the School Food and Nutrition Program is to provide reimbursement to eligible sponsors of child nutrition program and ensure the accountability of sponsors according to federal regulations.
The goal of the School Food and Nutrition Program is to improve the health and welfare of Louisiana's children by administering and funding the federal child nutrition programs which provide nutritious meal service to eligible participants.
OBJECTIVES AND PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
1. The School Food and Nutrition Program will ensure the provision of basic nutrition to eligible participants in Louisiana by ensuring those individuals in approved settings will receive nutritious meals according to federal regulations in FY 1998-99.
RESOURCE ALLOCATION FOR THE PROGRAM
This program is funded with federal funds by the U.S. Department of Agriculture through the National School Lunch Act of 1946 and the Child Nutrition Act of 1966, as amended.

The total means of financing for this program is recommended at 100% of the existing operating budget. It represents 98.5% of the total request ($210,695,166) for this program. The recommended budget is less than the requested budget because further review by the Department of Education indicated there was no documentable increase in projected clients.
