Program Authorization: R.S. 22:1580-1587
This program provides funding to local governmental entities to aid in fire protection. A 2% fee is assessed on fire insurance premiums; funding is remitted on a per capita basis to local entities.

This agency's recommended appropriation does not include any funds for short-term debt.
This agency does not have any long-term debt for Fiscal Year 1998-1999.
The source of funding for this program is statutory dedication - 2% Fire Insurance Fund. Money generated from a 2% surcharge on fire insurance premiums written in the state of Louisiana is deposited into this fund. (Per R.S. 39:32B.(8), see table below for a listing of expenditures out of each statutory dedicated fund.)

The total means of financing for this program is recommended at 105.1% of the existing operating budget. It represents 109.3% of the total request ($7,500,000) for this program. The total request was preliminary subject to the Louisiana Revenue Estimating Conference (R.E.C.) setting the official Fiscal Year 1999 projection for this constitutional dedication. The recommended funding level reflects the R.E.C.'s projection set at its February 18, 1998 meeting.
