INSURANCE INFORMATION NOTICE NO. 2000-1

SUBJECT: AUTOMOBILE PHYSICAL DAMAGE TOTAL LOSS CLAIMS

STATE-OWNED LICENSED VEHICLES

 

A total loss claim occurs when a State-owned licensed vehicle has been involved in an accident and the amount of the damage exceeds the value of the vehicle. Effective this date, the procedure for payment of total loss claims will be as follows:

  1. The actual cash value of the vehicle less the applicable deductible less the high salvage bid will determine the amount the Office of Risk Management (ORM) pays to the agency. 
  2. If the agency furnishes ORM, not Louisiana Property Assistance Agency (LPAA), with the original title, registration, and BF-11, ORM will reimburse them the amount of the high salvage bid. Copies of these documents will not be accepted.
