IntraLATA ATM

IntraLATA ATM service is available for access to LaNet.  It uses a physical BellSouth ATM access circuit or circuits and virtual circuits (PVCs) configured within that access pipe.  For example, a customer may choose to install an IntraLATA ATM Subrate DS3, and subscribe to 12Mb PVC for LaNet Bandwidth.  Upgrading the bandwidth subscription to LaNet can then be accomplished without installation of a physical circuit.  Bandwidth rates for LaNet service may be viewed under their respective section titles in this catalog.  

In order to use ATM as an access method, an ATM interface will need to be available on the subscribers WAN access router.  Depending upon the size, type, and capability of the router, that may mean adding an ATM blade to an existing router, or it may mean replacing the router with one that is ATM-enabled.  OTM orders and provides support for the ATM physical access lines; however, the subscriber is responsible for maintaining the subscribers router and should be familiar with the configuration issues involved. 

Bandwidth subscriptions for LaNet access are configured as virtual circuits (PVCs) on the access pipe. The ATM category of service used to create these PVCs within the BellSouth ATM cloud is Variable Bit Rate--non-real time (VBR-nrt).  This type of service allows maximum efficiency across the OTM ATM access circuits while still providing a contracted level of service for the customers. The VBR-nrt parameters, Peak Cell Rate (PCR) and Sustained Cell Rate (SCR) are both set equal to the requested LaNet bandwidth, so bursting above the subscription rate is not permitted.   The type of service for all ATM PVCs configured on the OTM ATM backbone is either Unspecified Bit Rate (UBR), best-effort service, or VBR-nrt for customers who require additional traffic shaping.  The available speeds and pricing for LaNet bandwidth are in this catalog under LaNet.

The following table lists pricing for intraLATA access to a BellSouth ATM service cloud from the following metro areas: Alexandria, Baton Rouge, Covington, Hammond, Houma, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Mandeville, Monroe, New Orleans, Shreveport, Slidell, and Thibodaux. Expedite Fee $200.00 

A Support Service fee of 0.5% shall be applied to the monthly cost of this service.

How To Order
To order IntraLATA ATM Service, the TC should first contact OTM Enhanced Network Services for assistance. OTM will work closely with the TC and the agency data networking specialists to select the appropriate service.

After the technical details have been determined, the TC should submit the request for service to the Advanced Services Section.
