NETWORK COMMUNICATIONS SERVICES OVERVIEW
Network Communications Services supports the provisioning of cost-effective telecommunications services that satisfy the needs of approved governmental units of the State of Louisiana through the procurement, management and support of network and voice products and services.
Key Functions
- Global
- Manages acquisition, billing, and recordkeeping of state government telecommunications systems and services
- Advises agencies regarding telecommunications management planning and related matters
- Develops technical specifications for state telecommunications contracts
- Provides training to users within state government in telecommunications technology and system use
- Manages information in the MySoft telecommunications expense management system
- Serves as the security administrator for the Network Services billing portal
- Coordinates as needed with appropriate vendors and support staff to resolve service issues
- Network
- Provides internet access and data center connectivity to in-scope and out-of-scope state offices via a statewide private backbone (LaNet) and redundant consolidated internet connections
- Actively supports over 20,000 users across 2,700 network nodes at 3 data centers and over 1200 user sites
- Modernizing legacy LAN and WAN services statewide with software-defined network technology to provide significantly higher bandwidth, stability, and security with lower overall expense
- Supports 5,300-plus leased circuits statewide, including direct Internet connections as well as private circuits
- Provides redundant connectivity to all sites, leveraging 4g/5g/FirstNet cellular networks and Starlink satellite services
- Deploys a standard secure, seamless wireless (Wi-Fi) solution across all consolidated user locations
- Communications
- Supports more than 200,000 telephone numbers at more than 3,500 customer locations
- Manages local telephone service projects for agency moves and acquisition of telephone systems
- Reviews and processes orders for voice services including Standard Dial Tone, Non-Standard Dial Tone, Toll-Free, and Long Distance
- Designs, implements, and manages special application call handling including automatic call distribution and interactive voice response systems
- Coordinates state government telephone directory listings
